Maersk Drilling (part of Maersk group) provides high-efficiency drilling services to oil companies around the world. It has 40+ years of drilling experience in the most challenging environments spanning from high pressure to high-temperature drilling to technical limit drilling to subsea work. Maersk Drilling supports global oil and gas production with more than 4000 onshore and offshore employees.
Challenge
Frequent network downtime
Cause: Users at oil rigs can only access SAP PM using VSAT communication. This communication periodically goes down when oil rigs are shifted based on load.
Effect: During VSAT downtime, SAP PM is inaccessible, blocking access to equipment records and asset details.
Error-prone paper-based procedures
Cause: Maintenance personnel relied heavily on paper-based processes because of no network connectivity. The paper-based processes were used to log work order details, confirm time and issue goods.
Effect: The handwritten entries on paper needed to be manually transferred back to SAP for creating a work order. Due to this, users had to enter data twice and this resulted in delays and inaccurate information.
High dollar asset failure potential
Cause: Maintenance personnel in the field used paper notes to track various work order edits. These details could only be entered into SAP when the network was available causing delays and errors.
Effect: Such delays in preventative/scheduled maintenance and data entry errors are highly undesirable and potentially catastrophic in consequence.
Lack of data visibility across challenging locations
Cause: Technicians working at extreme locations like high-pressure regions or in deep sea locations had no access to data for making informed decisions.
Effect: Technicians took more time to complete tasks resulting in low productivity.
Solution
Liquid UI Offline streamlined and eliminated Maersk´s paper-based processes for SAP Plant Maintenance.
It enabled portal access to SAP PM tasks on Handheld Scanguns including: generating work orders, creating notifications, searching equipment details and more.
Liquid UI provided seamless access to SAP PM data with or without network connectivity where all the transactional detail could be accessed as required.
With Liquid UI, maintenance personnel now have access to SAP from which they can create and change work orders, confirm time, and issue goods.
A single version of central PM data. An SQLite database resides on the device for fast and robust access to relevant PM data while offline.
Liquid UI Offline provided fast data sync – only data which has been manipulated is synced, minimizing network traffic. Additionally, offline data is automatically uploaded to SAP.
Operational costs are reduced by giving Maersk´s users unified access to processes and information, whether they are on land or at sea with a similar user-friendly interface.
Liquid UI enabled preventive maintenance with timely access to SAP thereby reducing asset failure risk in potential environmental lawsuits.
